You are now 15 months. Wow! There are days where I miss you being only a couple months old when we would just sit and snuggle but I am really enjoying everything about you at this age. I still get lots of snuggles at bedtime and some nights I let you wind down in our bed. You lay next to me and we just "talk" and work on animal sounds. These are such special times to me.
Evening Snack:
Each night after your bath you run to the fridge and wait for me to come and ask you what you want to eat. You don't ever say "mama". You say "mom". You have always called me mom and say this at the fridge over and over until I come. We get a small orange in which you carry to the couch and wait for me to come sit with you. We sit together, eat the orange and watch Dog with a Blog. It's really our family show. EVERYONE watches it including our dogs as well! There is a dog so what's not to love about it! If you had it your way you would eat all the orange slices in one big handful but I make you eat one at a time. You prove to me that you have finished the one in your mouth and are ready for another by opening your mouth, sticking your tongue out and saying "ahhhh". You then put out your hand which is my cue to give you another piece. It makes me smile that we have this nightly routine.
We also do lunch in the park once a week. You love being outside, watching birds and running around.
Pretzel Time:
About once a week we have one jammed packed day of errands all around town. Now that Starbucks sells pretzels we go through and get one and we share it on the ride home. It makes you so happy when you see the pretzel because you know we are about to share this salty treat. I pass back a piece and you smile and take it. When you are ready for another I see your hands reach out and you say "uh" a few times which means you are ready for another bite. It is so cute and you are like mommy in that you LOVE your carbs!
Rock Walk:
After dinner when it cools off we put on your shoes and walk around our yard on a "rock walk". You love to walk around and collect rocks. We hold hands and walk around searching for beautiful rocks. Sometimes you pick ones out for me to hold and carry and sometimes I show you ones and you hold them. I can see you contemplating what to do when you have a rock in each hand and you are trying to figure out how you can hold mama's hand. You are hesitant to let me care for one of your rocks in order to free up your hand to hold. We chase lizards, look at birds and just enjoy being outside.
Swimming:
You are soo much like your daddy from your facial expression, your feet, your hair, your build, etc. Everyone's first comment about you is usually about how much you look just like Daddy which is wonderful but this mama likes to hear you have some of me in ya! We have come to learn you LOVE the water. This makes me extremely happy because I have always loved the water. You are fearless when we go swimming and constantly push my hands away when I help you float or hold you horizontally on your belly. You want to run in the shallow end (on your own of course) and you don't mind putting your face in the water. Most of the time you take a drink of the pool water because you think it is funny. We are working on blowing bubbles but so far you enjoy taking a sip more than making bubbles. You like to lay on your back against my shoulder and we kick your feet. You definitely do not cling to me in the water but want me to let you go on your own. You have the biggest smile on your face the entire time and it makes mama so happy to enjoy these moments with you.
Little Helper:
You are becoming a great helper and listener. Granted sometimes I have to repeat myself about ten times but you eventually do what I ask you which is really great. The other day you helped me hang all of Daddy's clothes. I laid a stack of hangers next to you and you handed me a hanger one at a time. You forced me to work super quick as you kept the hangers coming at full speed!
Book Worm:
Little girl you love to look at books, magazine, ads, whatever you can! When I weened you from breastfeeding I would put you to bed with a book for nap time. You really loved this and looked forward to picking a book out to take to bed with you. You would just lay in your crib and turn pages and fall asleep. In the car I give you books to look at and you really study them and seem to enjoy this. Since you have a love for dogs we gave you the local community dog magazine which is filled with many photos of dogs and you adored it! If we get in the car and you see the magazine laying on the seat you put your hands out for it and shake your head yes when I ask if you want to read it. You read in the highchair while waiting for mama to make your breakfast. You read bath books while I wash your hair. You really love the small board books that have pictures of real animals in them. We have a Little Einstein book set and you carry that box of books from room to room asking me to open it up for you.
Words:
You say mom, mama, dada, pop (for Pops), dooog, wow, whoa (when you fall because I always say that when you fall), yea, uh-oh, roll (from patty cake time). You make animal noises when we ask you what an elephant, lion, monkey, chicken, cow, horse, sheep all say. You still haven't mastered dog or cat noises. You recognize animals in different books we have and make their sounds when you spot that animal. I love watching you learn and grow.
Loves:
You love your pink bird that you got from Grandpa Gabell on your 1st Christmas. You love for me to make the bird "talk" to you and then you carry him around the house and feed him your toys. Sorry I could not capture a clear picture. You literally RUN with the bird so I can't ever get a good shot.
Lastly, your latest thing you really enjoy doing is coloring. We gave you a pen the other day because you saw Daddy drawing out a sketch of the yard to show me where he thought trees should go. You wanted to try to draw so we gave you a pen. Well we were SHOCKED how you naturally held a pen. How do you know this is how to hold it?! It's time for mama to buy you some crayons and washable, non toxic markers for you to experiment with! Will you be a lefty?! We will see.
A Few Last Tid Bits:
You are still in size 5 diapers, 18 month bottoms but really need to be in 24 month tops (just this week), and are in between a 5-6 shoe. You just outgrew your first pair of tennis shoes that we used for three months. You are big enough to sit forward facing in your car seat now and you really love being able to see so much. You have 8 teeth and I feel we are working on molars now. You are beginning to dance more to music. You really love to stomp your foot to music. If you start clapping your hands and stopping your feet then I'll know you are channeling your Texas roots! You have curls on the back of your head. Curly hair in the back, slightly wavy on top. You kissed your first boy last Friday at the pool. His mama was holding him on her shoulder because he was tired and you leaned in and gave him a smooch...TWICE!
Love you lots,
Mama
