This past weekend we celebrated Jason's 35th Birthday! We had a full day including going to see the movie Pacific Rim, just the two of us. Some friends were kind enough to watch Lil Spoon so we could have a date. It was so nice! She was so worn out when we picked her up that she took a nap in the car and then continued to sleep another two hours at home.
SIDE NOTE:
I packed our kiddo a lunch for my friend to give her while we were gone and later that night when I went to clean out her lunchbox I discovered my friend cleaned her snack containers out for me. Umm, how nice is that?! It's drives me nuts to leave food or food remains in containers without soaking them or rinsing them at the very least so this was such a treat for me! I was so thankful she took the time to save me from scrubbing later. It really is the small things that make my day!!
Anyways, while she napped we were able to have lunch, drink wine and just enjoy doing NOTHING! Later, we went to get his favorite meal..chicken fried steak at Cracker Barrel and Lil Spoon got pancakes, mac n cheese, and biscuits. Everyone was having a cheat meal yesterday, even the baby! She rarely has actual restaurant style pancakes so she was enjoying the treats! When we got home we finally were able to dive into the cake I made him and open gifts. This was the cake I made him out of fondant and it turned out pretty good and actually tasty. I have never used fondant before and was fearful of it looking like a Pinterest fail. To my surprise it turned out pretty dang amazing if I must say. I used THIS STUFF found at Walmart and it was super easy. Between baking a cake, frosting it and doing the fondant it took a couple hours but it was worth it.
She enjoyed the bubble wrap as much as she enjoyed the cake.
The funniest gift..Obama Chia Pet! From non other than Uncle Kevin
Can't sit for a picture mom, I gotta ruuuun!
And...after all that sugar from pancakes and birthday cake this girl was WOUND UP! Our friends know how much she loves my Camelback water bottle and they got her a kid size Camelback bottle. She LOVED it and ran around the house all evening continually drinking and laughing with it.
The cake looks wonderful!! I might try some Walmart fondant for my hubby's bday in a few weeks!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You should check that stuff out at Walmart. It was super easy and they even had a flyer near the fondant that gives you step by step instructions. It even tasted pretty good..not like typical rubber fondant. Hope to see your cake!!
